General Travel Update 11.15am Thursday 5 December from Nexus
Today’s storm is expected to remain at its peak until mid-afternoon and is affecting some public transport.
Buses
Almost all bus routes in Tyne and Wear are operating but with delays as drivers take extra care in today’s storm winds, and because of traffic.
Buses between Newcastle and Metrocentre are diverted and will see heavy delays in both directions. This is because the Redheugh Bridge is expected to be closed most of the day due to an overturned lorry. There is also a sliproad closed from the A1 at Dunston but the A1 itself is open to traffic.
43, 45, 46, 52, 55, 306, 308, X10, X11, X20, X21, X22 - Arriva services to and from Haymarket report severe delays. 74, 687 and 688 routes at Hexham missing Station Road, due to a road closure. R6 at Barlow, Winlaton, diverted by road closure – telegraph pole blocking road.
Rail
National rail trains are cancelled between Newcastle and Edinburgh, and all train services in Scotland have been suspended.
All national rail train services in the region are operating to a 50mph speed limit with delays and cancellations to be expected.
