Fright at the Museum

Get ready for a fright – Tyne and Wear museums and galleries take on a distinctly eerie feel this October half term holiday with a series of family Halloween events.
Zombies descend on the Laing Art Gallery as part of Halloween’s takeover day on Saturday 31 October, 1-3pm. Work with a professional special effects artist to transform yourself into a member of the living dead, complete with grizzly wounds. Learn the tricks of the trade and you’ll end up with the best costume on your street. Suitable for 8-13 year olds. Tickets cost £20 per child including materials and should be booked in advance. In keeping with the current Spineless exhibition, it’s all about creepy crawlies at the Great North Museum: Hancock on Saturday 31 October, 11am - 3pm. Handle giant bugs and scorpions, build your own ice cream with local honey toppings and if you’re feeling really brave, taste some crunchy critters. Suitable for under 12s. Free entry. Discovery Museum hosts its annual night of spooky fun on Friday 30 October, 5-7pm. Get your Halloween fancy dress on and do the Time Warp at the Monsters Ball, or try your hand at pumpkin bowling, gruesome golf and decorating gingerdead men. Untold horrors await in the Newcastle Story gallery too if you dare to take a tour. Especially suitable for under 7s. All children under 12 welcome. Tickets cost £5 per child plus £1 per accompanying adult and should be booked in advance. Find out more at www.discoverymuseum.org.uk
