Fender Fever Hits NX rooftop: Free City Centre Pre-Show Terrace Party for Sam’s St. James’ Gigs Announced

Live Music, DJs, Rooftop Views and Themed Cocktails at city centre rooftop terrace - just a stone’s throw away from St James’ Park.

As Tyneside prepares to welcome back one of its brightest musical sons, ‘Altitude’, the rooftop terrace based on the roof of NX Newcastle, is proud to present a weekend-long pre-show party - a free-entry, full-throttle celebration ahead of Sam Fender’s sold-out homecoming shows at St. James’ Park on 12th, 14th and 15th June.

Running from 2pm to 6/7pm this Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, the free to book pre-gig party is the ultimate warm-up to the main event - offering live music, top DJs, Fender themed cocktails, rooftop terrace vibes, city skyline views and NUFC-themed flag displays in one of Newcastle’s most iconic live venues, just a short stroll from the stadium gates.

We’ve all got Sam fever - and rightly so,” says Venue Manager Luke Rushfirth. “He’s putting this city on the global map in a way few artists ever have. These three shows are historic, and we wanted to create something special to match the energy. We’ll have guitars ringing out, cocktails clinking, and views right over St. James’. Whether you’ve got tickets or just want to be part of the buzz, this is the place to be before the big one.”

After a meteoric rise that’s seen him scoop two BRIT Awards, a coveted Ivor Novello, and headline festivals across Europe, Sam Fender’s return to Tyneside for three consecutive nights at St. James’ Park marks a true landmark moment - not just in his career, but in North East music history.

From the bruising, Springsteen-tinged anthems of Hypersonic Missiles to the raw introspection of Seventeen Going Under, and now the sonic expansion of his latest LP People Watching, Fender’s sound is both deeply personal and instantly universal - unflinching in its social commentary yet brimming with hope. His lyrics speak of working-class identity, mental health, childhood trauma, and growing up in North Shields, and have resonated with a generation of fans far beyond his hometown.

Tracks like Dead Boys, Spit of You and The Borders have become stadium-sized rallying cries, and with Fender now headlining the same pitch he once watched Newcastle United from as a kid, the emotional weight of these gigs is impossible to overstate.

Situated just minutes from St. James’ Park, Altitude, at NX Newcastle is the perfect launchpad for an unforgettable night. With its state-of-the-art sound system and newly renovated rooftop terrace, the venue has fast become a cultural cornerstone in the North East’s live music scene.

Whether you’re after a buzzing pre-show atmosphere or a relaxed drink in the sun, Altitude delivers.

There’s no better place to soak in the buzz,” adds Luke. “Whether you want to belt out some Sam anthems with a drink in hand or just take in the view of the ground with mates before heading to the show, we’ve got you covered. This is about the North East coming together for one of its own - music, football, and regional pride.”
