Diners invited to wax lyrical at Blackfriars Restaurant

An artisan candle making company is lighting up lunch at a medieval restaurant in Newcastle. Northumbrian Candleworks, based in Corbridge, is hosting a Ladies Lunch event at Blackfriars Restaurant on Tuesday, March 4, offering an interactive candle making experience for diners. The family-run company, which was set up in 2009, hand makes pure, natural soy wax candles from its workshop in Corbridge’s Old Bakery Yard, using a wide range of high quality fragrances. The candles, which are crafted from organic, GM free soy wax, have been compared favourably to major brands such as Jo Malone, and the products are now sold in stores across the UK. At the Blackfriars event, which kicks off at 11am, ladies will enjoy a glass of fizz, a workshop with Peter Cooke – chandler at Northumbrian Candleworks - lunch, wine and coffee  for £25 per person. Peter’s workshop will demonstrate the art of scented candle making, giving participants the opportunity to see how candles are made and also to have the opportunity to make - and take away - their own scented candle. Andy Hook, managing director at Blackfriars Restaurant and Banquet Hall, which was voted Newcastle’s top restaurant in the North East England Tourism Awards in 2013 said: “We’re always thinking of ways to put together innovative, entertaining new events for our customers – as well as supporting inspirational local companies. “Northumbrian Candleworks creates beautiful candles which are increasingly becoming known for the desirability of their scents, and we’re really looking forward to welcoming Peter to Blackfriars to showcase his skills.” Blackfriars holds a ladies lunch on the first Tuesday of every month.
