Craig Wilde Announces New Stage Adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Curious Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde for the 2026 Season at The Assembly Rooms Newcastle

Acclaimed writer and producer Craig Wilde today announced his brand-new stage adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s iconic Gothic novella The Curious Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde, premiering October 2026 as part of the 250th-anniversary season at The Assembly Rooms Newcastle.

Following the sell-out success of Wilde’s acclaimed productions Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus and Dickens by Candlelight – A Christmas Carol, this bold new adaptation promises a gripping, immersive, and psychologically intense theatrical experience.

Directed by multi-award-winning director Jake Murray, the production will be staged in the round, placing audiences unnervingly close to the duality, desire, and horror at the heart of Jekyll’s descent into darkness.

"This story is more than a Victorian horror tale — it’s a brutal examination of the selves we hide,” says Craig Wilde. “Our adaptation pulls Jekyll and Hyde apart in a visceral, unsettling way that only live theatre can achieve.”

Produced by Niltoni Entertainment, the production features:
• Producers: Louise Dearden & Filipe Neves Ribeiro
• Costume Design: Abby Wilkinson
• Set & Props Design: Amelia Mitchell

Performances will run from 22–31 October 2026, with limited seating to preserve the immersive staging.

About the Production

Wilde’s 2026 adaptation strips the story back to its psychological core, exploring identity, repression, and the monstrous consequences of denying one’s darker nature. Designed to be intimate, intense, and atmospheric, this interpretation brings new urgency to Stevenson’s timeless exploration of human duality.
