Coffee, Cake and Elton John
The renowned Tyneside Coffee Rooms is preparing to celebrate its 30th Anniversary Year with a special tribute to one of the century’s most endearing singer/songwriters.
The Coffee Rooms will be joining forces with the acclaimed ‘Record Player’ nights, hosted by the celebrated comedian and presenter Mr Drayton, that pay homage to the best of classic vinyl albums on a regular basis at the esteemed city-centre venue, for a one-off special in tribute to Elton John, on Sunday 10th August.
Coffee Room proprietor John Oswell and Mr Drayton decided to bring something a little different to the table for this one-off special event.
Mr Drayton explains:
“On discovering that both John and I were both long-time fans of roly-poly spectacle wearer Elton John the choice of which album was obvious - the 1971 classic Madman Across The Water. Famous for its opening track, Tiny Dancer (which has been sampled and covered by everyone from Chipmunk to The Red Hot Chilli Peppers), it is classic early Elton, an album that helped him break the American market and take him to global stardom. In this ever changing world of shuffling and flipping tunes like fast food from a back street burger van, why not take time to feast on a fine slice of prime cut vinyl?”
John adds:
“For the past four years Mr Drayton has brought his Record Player nights to the Digital Lounge at the Tyneside Cinema. With it being next door to the Coffee Rooms we've listened in envy as audiences enjoyed an oasis of calm with the best from the world of classic albums, old and new alike. As part of our 30th anniversary we invited Mr. D to bring us some classic Elton - Madman Across the Water will be played, in full, on vinyl, as well as greatest songs from the 1969-1975 period following on from the main event. In addition to the usual menu available at the Coffee Rooms, our tastebuds will be tantalised with the promise of a special Elton cake!”
