Celebrating 20 Years with Metro Radio Arena

Metro Radio Arena is celebrating its 20th Year of bringing world class stars to the North East venue. Since opening its doors in November 1995 with a Basketball match, with the first concert by David Bowie in the December the venue has been the music and live entertainment hub of not only Newcastle but the North East of England. The venue was the brainchild of ‘The Animals’ band members Chas Chandler and Nigel Stanger. 2015 is set to be a another record breaking year for events. The celebration year kicked off with a bang as international rock band Queen and Adam Lambert played an explosive gig to a sell-out audience of over 10,000 people, closely followed by the much loved live tour of the popular television show, Strictly Come Dancing. Events for the year have continued to grow and we have already announced a string of exciting artists including Take That and One Direction.  Sport is also featuring heavily in our events calendar this year with the return of the highly skilled American Basketball players the Harlem Globetrotters, Championship Boxing and Premiership Darts; for the petrol heads amongst us, Arenacross and Top Gear Live offered the perfect mix of racing and excitement with both 2 and 4 wheel action. Attracting around 650,000 people through its doors this year we continue to provide the region with the best in entertainment;  the perfect start to a further 20 years. Paul Tappenden, General Manager said “The venue has been a valuable asset to the North East region over the past 20 years, attracting some amazing events such as Pavarotti. Mamma Mia, Les Miserable along with Meat Loaf, George Michael and Dolly Parton. This year is about celebrating that achievement so far . We have some great promotion running throughout the year and encourage you all to get involved” Nichola McKenna Marketing and Commercial Manager said “We are asking customers to tell us about their Arena memories over the past 20 years, #Livesince95. We have already had some great stories coming in and it is wonderful to hear how we have been part of people’s lives.  Full details will be appearing on our website: www.metroradioarena.co.uk
