Celebrating 10 years of ‘The Snowman’ at Sage Gateshead

Sage Gateshead’s ever-popular annual live music and film event for all the family, The Snowman, is now on sale with extra shows added due to popular demand in the run up to Christmas.
Families can now enjoy the classic 1982 animated film, adapted from Raymond Briggs’ timeless picture book, on the big screen accompanied live by Royal Northern Sinfonia playing Howard Blake’s enchanting score on three dates over the Christmas period (Monday 22 December 11am, 2pm and 5pm; Tuesday 23 December, 11am, 2pm and 5pm; Wednesday 24 December, 11am and 2pm).
Now a Christmas tradition at the music venue, Sage Gateshead has delighted sell-out audiences of all ages with screenings of The Snowman accompanied by live music since the building opened to the public in December 2004.
Sage Gateshead turns ten in December 2014 and will be celebrating big style. Celebratory events linked to Sage Gateshead’s 10th Birthday Appeal take place right through to summer 2015 including a 6 day birthday party from 16 to 21 December.
Thorben Dittes, Director of Royal Northern Sinfonia and Classical Music Programme at Sage Gateshead said: “For ten years The Snowman has been a tradition in our annual festive programme. It’s a rare chance for families to see the film with a live orchestral accompaniment from Royal Northern Sinfonia, and has proven an unbeatable way to enjoy this Christmas classic.”
This year the concerts will begin with an engaging musical rendition of the traditional rhyme ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, popularised by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury’s captivating children’s book. Children are encouraged to bring their favourite teddy bear to join in with the festivities.
