Celebrate Independence Day with amazing food in Newcastle!

Happy 4th July folks! Now we know this isn't 'technically' a celebration in which British people should be partaking, but it's been a long time, a lot of water under the bridge, and heck, it gives us a great chance to eat some amazing food so why not!

Burgers, milkshakes, Oreos, ice cream, hot dogs and the rest, all associated with our good friends from across the pond; if anything it would be silly not to join in!

So, now we've decided, all that's left is to hunt down the best Independence Day offerings across the city and gorge yourself to celebrate the good ole U.S of A, luckily that's where we come in, we've compiled this handy list of the best American (or American inspired) places in Newcastle, just for you, enjoy!

Five Guys

One of the most recent additions to the city, and proud purveyors of some of the burgers around. Their Menu doesn't change for Independence Day, but when they offer 'Add Bacon to any milkshake for free', does it need to?

Straight from the U.S and with branches all across the States, this is as true a taste of America as you're likely to get without a plane ticket. We recommend the milkshakes, so thick you'll need a spoon instead of a straw!

Fat Hippo

A Newcastle-legend, the Hippo's burgers are renowned far and wide and for good reason. Slightly pink and bursting with flavour, their burger range is hefty, and they also offer hot dogs and more.

Not only that, they go in for Independence Day in a BIG way with a Menu devoted entirely to it with specials which change year to year. This year they've pushed the boat out and are offering 'The Double Dipper'. A double 4oz beef patty, topped with cheese, grilled onions, peppers, smoked pastrami, double dipped in cheese and gravy sauce. If you've got room for more they've also tackled a Canadian favourite in 'Poutine' (chips, beef, cheese and gravy in a tray to you and I) AND top it off with a Mississippi Mud Pie from the Pudding Parlour.

Wear loose-fitting pants is all we can say.

Northside Diner

Located on Fenwick's Third Floor (the amazing Toy department floor of your youth), this is a slice of Americana in the heart of the city. An old-style American diner, complete with jukebox and a Menu of mouth-watering American goodies.

Hot dogs, curly fries, milkshakes and pancakes with maple syrup, you can indulge your heart's desires all year round but really, the 4th July is an essential time to pay a visit.

Longhorns

Moving away from burgers, Longhorns on Moseley Street offer a different slice of American cuisine, focusing on BBQ Smokehouse straight from the depths of Texas. Grab brisket, chilli, ribs or some Mac and Cheese, and savour the flavours which come from being smoked for 24 hours (well apart from the mac and cheese!).

If chicken wings are your thing then you're in luck, and we can vouch that the Pit Boss Fries are a game-changer.

Hop & Cleaver

Grab some BBQ meat and a Jack Daniels milkshake, all under one (very old) roof in the amazing Hop & Cleaver on the Quayside, specialists in all things BBQ. Choose from their Pulled Pork, Cheese Dog or Chicken Waffle sandwich and more besides.

PLUS, this year July 4th falls on one of their infamous 'Meat-Lovin Mondays' where you can grab a little bit of everything, plus two cocktails or pints, all for an incredibly reasonable £20, all the more reason we say!

Anyone salivating yet? Celebrate Independence Day in Newcastle today and choose from all of these amazing venue, OR tackle them all, we can't say we'd blame you, how can anyone be expected to choose!
