Bright Club - Comedy with Brains

An academic, a student and a comedian walk onto a stage - and no, this is not the set-up for a cheesy joke, this is the unusual line-up that will be taking to the stage for Bright Club, the alternative comedy and variety night that mixes academics, students and comedians for a performance like no other.
The regular event is organised by the Centre for Life in collaboration with Newcastle and Northumbria Universities, and is affectionately dubbed ‘the thinking person’s variety night’. Bright Club offers a platform for comedy, music, performance, science and new writing. Each brave performer has an eight minute set – and any subject goes – making for some seriously unpredictable entertainment. After three years on the Newcastle comedy scene, Bright Club is now held at the prestigious Stand Comedy Club in Newcastle, with the venue allowing a bigger crowd than ever before.
Duncan Yellowlees, Public Engagement Officer at the Centre for Life and one of the organisers behind this eclectic show explains exactly why Bright Club is so special. He said: “What makes Bright Club so great is that it is different, it’s not like an open mic night or even a comedy or music night. Bright Club works because it makes unusual bedfellows of comedy and academia. It is always fresh, always funny and always interesting.”
This latest instalment of Bright Club will be compéred by beloved Geordie comedian Gavin Webster; with previous appearances on hit shows such as BBC’s Never mind the Buzzcocks, Gavin is sure to add an extra helping of hilarity into this already fun-packed night.
This event will be held from 8pm at The Stand Comedy Club in Newcastle and is open to adults only (18+). Tickets for Bright Club are priced at £4.00 per person, and pre-booking is recommended at www.thestand.co.uk.
