Bridget Jones Comes to Tyneside

CHAMPAGNE corks are popping at the North East’s newest cocktail club after its chief mixologist scooped a national award. Tony Pearman, bar manager at Tiger Hornsby, Quayside, Newcastle, wowed judges at Pinky Vodka’s Bartender Competition with his specially created tipple, The Bridget Jones. The pink-coloured, vodka-based cocktail takes its name from the fictional character portrayed on film by Renee Zellweger and was served to guests at the Cosmopolitan Blogger Awards held in London this month (October). Now, not only will it join the cocktail menu at Tiger Hornsby, but the bar is to launch a competition of its own: to find Tyneside’s very own Bridget Jones. “The cocktail is a love triangle between sloe, juniper and basil,” said Tony, “which put me in mind of Bridget and her hilarious love triangle with Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver. “Like many of our early evening customers, she also loved going out for a drink with her friends after work so this is the perfect opportunity to find a real-life Bridget Jones here on Tyneside.” Between 5pm and 7pm from Thursday to Sunday, the award-winning cocktail will be on sale at a special price of £4.50 and female customers will be invited to enter a prize draw, on until the end of November, to win a specially created cocktail of their own. Not only will their bespoke cocktail be named after them but they will be able to enjoy it free of charge at Tiger Hornsby throughout December. Tiger Hornsby is open on Thursdays from 5pm to 2am and on Fridays and Saturdays, from 5pm to 3am and admission is free.
