Award-winning food is back on the menu at Blackfriars thanks to its new delivery and collection service which starts this Friday 22 May.

Blackfriars, which was voted Taste of the North East last year, will be serving its most popular signature dishes from its menu, including Northumbrian ham terrine with piccalilli, fennel; Smoked mackerel pâté, dill pickled cucumber with crispy sourdough; and Young goats’ cheese, candied walnut & roast beetroot salad for starters. For mains, Slow-cooked ox cheek, horseradish mash, Savoy cabbage, braised shallot; Roast pork shoulder, cheddar mash, braised leek, North Sea fish pie; and Butternut squash, chickpea & spinach curry with wild rice.   For dessert, choose from Sticky toffee pudding, salted caramel sauce and Classic Eton mess.

Voted ‘Best Sunday Roast in the North East’ by the Independent and Time Out Magazine, Blackfriars’ Sunday roast is not one to be missed. Choose from Slow-cooked ox cheek; Roast pork shoulder or Pan haggerty served with cauliflower cheese, seasonal greens, roast potatoes, mash, Yorkshire puddings and gravy.

Meals are available from 4-7pm on Friday and Saturday and from 12-4pm on Sundays. Prices are one course £15, 2 courses £18 and 3 for £21 and customers to make their order can call 0191 261 5945 from 3-7pm Thursday to Saturday or 10am-2pm Sunday. All menus can be seen on www.blackfriarsrestaurant.co.uk/menus

Customers can also order a loaf of sourdough bread for £3.50 and 4 luxury sausage rolls for £5 as well as their carefully selected wines and local beers.

Andy Hook, owner of Blackfriars said:  “As we’re now in week nine of lockdown, we want to start making gradual steps towards what we hope will be a reopening sometime in July. We’ve been incredibly grateful of the messages of support we’ve received throughout lockdown and want to give something back. We thought the time was right to  launch our delivery and collection service to give our loyal customers a bit of Blackfriars’ award-winning food at home. And then in the coming weeks and months, as it is safe to open the restaurant, we will offer both the in-restaurant experience and takeaway service. We have also rescheduled our themed wine lunches and dinners, cookery classes and Tastings to later in the summer”.

The restaurant will be abiding by all health and safety guidelines for collection and delivery and will only be taking online payments.
