Audiences flock to classic Christmas film It’s a Wonderful Life at Tyneside Cinema

It’s A Wonderful Life (U) Showing at Tyneside Cinema until Tuesday 24 December 2014 Extra screenings from Sunday 8 December now on sale www.tynesidecinema.co.uk/wonderful

Newcastle’s Tyneside Cinema has seen record-breaking advance sales for its annual run of the 1946 classic It’s A Wonderful Life. More people than ever before have booked tickets to see It’s A Wonderful Life this Christmas, with some screenings sold out weeks in advance. To cope with demand the Cinema has just released extra tickets for the run, meaning more people can now see the feel-good movie in the luxurious surroundings of the Tyneside throughout December until Christmas Eve.

Frank Capra’s timeless black-and-white film about George Bailey and his guardian angel Clarence was nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Picture on its original release and has become a perennial favourite with North East audiences, with thousands of people flocking to see it at Tyneside Cinema every year.

The Cinema is also giving audiences the chance to see the classic Christmas film followed by live music from local jazz band The Maine Street Trio at two special Night of Good Cheer screenings on Sunday 22 and Monday 23 December. A third Night of Good Cheer performance by folk group The Cornshed Sisters on Saturday 21 December sold out last month.

Jonny Tull, Cinema Programme Manager at Tyneside Cinema said, “We’ve been overwhelmed by the demand for It’s A Wonderful Life at Tyneside Cinema this year. More than 3,000 people have already booked their tickets to see the ultimate festive film, and we’re delighted to be able to release more tickets and give even more people the chance to see Frank Capra’s masterpiece on the big screen this Christmas!”

It’s A Wonderful Life is screening at Tyneside Cinema from Sunday 8 December on selected dates until Christmas Eve. Tickets are on sale now for all screenings, including two Nights of Good Cheer followed by live music in the Tyneside Bar on Sunday 22 and Monday 23 December, as well as the Tyneside’s full Christmas programme of classic Christmas movies and special events.

Tickets are available now from the Tyneside Cinema Box Office, by telephone on 0845 217 9909 or online at www.tynesidecinema.co.uk/wonderful. Tickets for It’s A Wonderful Life screenings cost from £7.50-£11 (concessions from £1) and tickets for Night of Good Cheer events cost £20 (£16 concessions).
