10 Things You Can Expect to Find at The Argie Bhaji

Another epic ‘Food Battle’ will be taking place at Wylam Brewery this weekend and it’s not one to be missed! Remember Battle of the Burger? Well, this time, One20 and Unit44 have joined forces to bring us a more spice-fuelled, aromatic experience.

If you’re tired of the same old Bonfire Night, this could be just the alternative that you didn’t know you were yearning for. Think fireworks for the taste buds, as well as the eyes, and buckle down for a sensory explosion!

Here are some of the things you can expect to find on Friday and Saturday but keep an eye out as the final three competitors are yet to be announced.

Idyllic Surroundings

After being brought to life in the new millennium by its founding fathers, John Boyle and Robin Leighton, Wylam Brewery has come a long way since the early potting shed days and has finally found its home-bitter-home set against the serene backdrop of Exhibition Park. Located within the last remaining building from the 1929 North East Exhibition – Palace of Arts – this is not your typical brewery.

Perfectly Natural Blends

Welcome the first competitor stepping up to the plate… Sachins! Bob and Neeta Arora are used to serving up Newcastle’s finest Punjabi cuisine. All ingredients are mixed to ensure that the taste remains as authentic as possible, with spices meticulously balanced in order to create ultimate flavour. Whether you like it hot or not, we’re sure Sachins will deliver a top notch offering.

Seasoned Foodies

The second competitor rising to the chilli challenge is (drum roll please)… Dabbawal! Taking street food to a seriously sumptuous level, these guys might just have it in the bag. They’re pros at churning out tasty nibbles and petite portions. Look forward to their ‘Bhel Puri Cart' which will be stepping into the ring.

Street Food Veterans

On the Goa regularly serves up authentic Indian street food around the North East, frequenting the Quayside Market, amongst other markets and catering events, with their culinary delights. A worthy contestant who is sure to give the others a run for their money!

New Kids on the Chopping Block

Next to grace the spicy stage is Northumberland-based CurryRolls! Only established earlier this year, their homemade street food looks good enough to devour. These guys are certainly ready to rock the boat and win us over with their curry contribution.

Fierce Competition

And last but not least… Wylam Biryani! You might be wondering who this elusive contender could be, or you might have guessed already. This is indeed a special offering from the hosts themselves. After all, it would be rude not to roll up their sleeves and show the others just how it’s done. We can’t wait to see what the brewery offer up; could it be a biryani, perhaps?

Treats Galore

When things are heating up in the kitchen, what better way to cool down than a traditional yoghurt-based drink, originating from the Punjab region?  A Mango Lassi station will be joined by a ‘Poppadom Preach’ stall, which will be dishing out the sauciest Indian snacks to complement your curry. We wonder which offering you’ll pick to be Top of the Poppadoms!

A variety of seasonal snacks will also be available for consumption on the Saturday, so prepare your teeth for the stickiest toffee apples this side of the bonfire.

Burning of the Guy

Speaking of which… Remember, remember, 5th November is a double whammy! Not only can we satisfy our curry cravings on Saturday but, in true Guy Fawkes fashion, we can also bear witness to a fantastical fireworks display as well as a bonfire.

Music Slash Curry

If all of the above isn’t enough for you, then this one has to clinch the deal. A solid music agenda is on the cards to get us in the mood for all that chowing and slurping. We’re pleased to hear that One20 will be providing the beats so that our poor ears don’t feel left out.

Booze!

Perhaps the most obvious of expectations… Wylam Brewery boasts a fantastic selection of craft beers, lovingly brewed for the temptation of our taste buds. Choose from a range of keg and cask beers, as well as heritage cask beers that are only available in the North East (including the Angel Amber Ale and Collingwood Pale Ale). There are so many to try, so don’t be shy! Curry and beer? It’s a match made in heaven.

Spice up your life at Wylam Brewery on the 4th and 5th November for the Argie Bhaji! Find more information on our website www.getintonewcastle.co.uk or check out the event on Facebook. See you there!
