The Old George Inn

The Old George Inn is a Newcastle treasure, an iconic landmark seeped in history and breathtaking architecture. We are Newcastles oldest pub and its only surviving coaching inn.

Our royal connections to Charles 1st are documented and included in history tours by Newcastle city tour guides. His visits to us whilst being held in an open prison in Shieldfield in the early 1600s has prompted us to name our main room after him. The "King Charles" room still has the seat in which he sat. We are a traditional pub with traditional values catering for the vast majority of Geordies and visitors who share our principles. We are Newcastles best kept secret and a pub that we are proud of. Recently rated 5 Stars via "scores on the doors". Our Function Room is also available for Hire, suitable for parties or meetings, with a small charge of £30.
