Join us for an exclusive in conversation with Director Tina Gharavi and Producer Meg Thomson, as they discuss their new film, Virgina Woolf’s ‘Night and Day’. Described by Peter Bradshaw in a four-star review in the Guardian as a ‘dreamy adaptation that reaches for the stars’, this beautifully made film, shot on locations around the North East from the Lit and Phil to Beamish, takes Virgina Woolf’s most elusive novel and gives it a new life for the 21st Century. With an ensemble cast including Haley Bennett, Timothy Spall, Nadine Shah, Lily Allen and Jennifer Saunders, the film screened nationwide this year. But what does it take to adapt a classic successfully? What are global film production companies looking for when they take on projects like this? And what do women working in the industry today, face when trying to get films off the ground? 

Tina Gharavi is a BAFTA-nominated director, and Reader in Screenwriting and Film at Newcastle University. 

Meg Thomson is Executive Vice President of Globalgate Entertainment specialising in local language films made for global audiences. As a producer, her credits include Virginia Woolf’s ‘Night and Day’, ‘Freud’s Last Session’, ‘Flying Home’, ‘Siren’, ‘Dot the I’, and ‘Milk’. She has also executive produced numerous international films.
