NE1 Reviews: Cinderella, Tyne Theatre & Opera House

Last updated:

This year, the Tyne Theatre & Opera House and Enchanted Entertainment presents the classic family favourite, Cinderella – with a sparkling panto twist.

We’re delighted to be invited to the most magical ball of them all as the larger-than-life cast come together for sparkles, silliness and the ultimate fairytale story.

Packed with pumpkins, glass slippers and a Fairy Godmother who makes the magic happen, this feel-good festive show is one the whole family will love.

With the help of Buttons and the Fairy Godmother, will Cinders defeat the Ugly Sisters and make her way to the ball to meet her Prince Charming?

It’s great to see some familiar faces back on the stage. Charlie Richmond is bundles of fun as Buttons, bringing love and life to the show throughout – with plenty of belly-laughing fun for Geordie audiences. Lewis Denny is also back by popular demand, taking on the role of Dandini.

The music is at the top of its game this year with singing star, Maureen Nolan (as the Fairy Godmother), X-Factor finalist, Lola Saunders (as the stunning Cinderella), and Collabro member and Britain’s Got Talent winner, Jamie Lambert as the handsome Prince Charming.

CBBC’s Tracey Beaker and The Dumping Ground star, Connor Byrne, is Baron Hardup, reminding us why we love panto season with every silly song, sketch and one-liner.

What isn’t good about it? This show has everything – glittering costumes, sparkling sets, marvellous musical numbers and lovable characters who make returning to the panto an absolute joy.

Love it or hate it, there’s plenty of audience interaction – special shout out to the Scout Leader, pulled up to take part in a cracking rendition of the 12 Days of Christmas Song – an absolute panto must that always gets the crowd going! It’s not Christmas without this chaotic scene.

A number of The Nolan’s tunes feature throughout, a nod to our Fairy Godmother – one for the mums and dads. The feel-good soundtrack really gets the party going and panto-goers are up on their feet in no time.

If you’re looking for some feel-good family time at the theatre, this traditional tale with heaps of tummy-tickling fun thrown in, is an absolute must.

Don't be late for the ball - the show is on at the Tyne Theatre & Opera House until Sunday 30 December 2018. Pop it in the diary!
