Live From Times Square

Last updated:

Live From Times Square brings Beach Boys legend and Manic Street Preachers to town for a terrific festival of nostalgic tunes and feel-good music.

Newcastle's outdoor live music spectacular, Live From Times Square, will bring yet more amazing entertainment to the city centre this August as Beach Boys icon Brian Wilson and welsh rock royalty Manic Street Preachers roll into town.

The event, which takes place opposite the Centre for Life in Times Square, has already seen the likes of singer-songwriter Jake Bugg - and will now turn its attention to the legendary indie outfit, James - as well as two of music's most recognisable forces.

As part of the two-week long festival, the Manics will be performing classics from their significant backlog of timeless indie classics for an epic headlining show on Saturday 5th August (gates open at 3pm).

Following on from the band's sell-out arena tour last year, which celebrated the 20th anniversary of their seminal 90s classic album, Everything Must Go, the band are on the road again this summer, much to the delight of millions of fans who missed out last time around.

The band will be supported by an all-star cast of British talent, this time in the form of Wakefield's rockers The Cribs, Public Service Broadcasting and the all girl alternative indie outfit, Dream Wife.

And then there's the Beach Boy's chief songsmith and legend, Brian Wilson. Brian will be bringing the seminal Pet Sounds album tour to Newcastle on Sunday 6th August (gates open 3pm). And with Seasick Steve in support, it promises to be one of the highlights of the region's summer festival calendar.

His show will prove to be the perfect closing performance for this year's gathering and will delight fans by performing one of the most celebrated albums of all time in full.

The co-founder of the Beach Boys is currently wowing fans around the globe celebrating the iconic album Pet Sounds, in honour of its 50th anniversary. Due to phenomenal public demand, Brian will present ‘Pet Sounds’ in its entirety plus Greatest hits for one last time.

Brian said: “I’m really happy to be able to come back to the UK and perform Pet Sounds yet again for all our fans. The response from everyone has been amazing and that’s why we decided to come back and play Pet Sounds for one last time. We want to thanks the fans in the UK for all their support and look forward to playing these shows this Summer. Love and Mercy, Brian.”

Are you a fan of the true original sounds of “Madchester”? Before The Manics and Brian Wilson take you on a tour through their outrageous back catalogue, the much celebrated Haçienda Classical will be kicking the weekend off in style on Friday 4 August from 6:30pm.

Led by two of Manchester's infamous Hacienda DJs, Mike Pickering and Graeme Park, The Haçienda and Manchester Camerata - the city’s experimental orchestra - are bringing back Haçienda Classical in 2017 with a brand new soundtrack in what will be their first Newcastle appearance. Not to be missed!
