Hack Your NE1 Weekend | 12 - 13 January 2019
YAY FOR THE WEEKEND!
We might be two weeks into January, but the fun just keeps on coming in Newcastle!
SATURDAY 12 JANUARY
Wake up, warm up!
Get your caffeine fix at Pret A Manger. The café’s festive menu might be long gone, but there’s still lots of good stuff up for grabs! Wake up and warm up with a spicy chai latte, a hot chocolate or a strong macchiato.
Theatre fun
Young creatives and budding actors are invited to Northern Stage’s Open Stages workshop, giving them a chance to meet new friends, share ideas, learn new skills and have lots of fun making a performance.
Culture time
Discover the stories of the people of Tyneside through Discovery Museum’s Destination Tyneside exhibition. Learn more about our region’s people and the jobs they held - everything from coal mining to shipbuilding and engineering!
Saturday sounds
Head to Sage to see talented Royal Northern Sinfonia musicians as a wind octet. Expect two familiar and very lovely works by Mozart, mixed in with pieces from modern British composers.
Bowie beats!
After selling out last year’s event in record time, Transatlantic Bowie returns to Wylam Brewery with the Transatlantic Ensemble. Watch as a team of top-notch London musicians pay homage to one of the greatest artists of all time - David Bowie!
Scrummy supper
Saturday supper at dAt bAr sounds good! Go for big wood-fired pizzas, comforting bowls of pasta, or plant-powered vegan treats. We love the sweet potato mac ’n’ cheese and the orecchiette pasta with soya milk béchamel sauce, almonds and roasted cauliflower.
Charity sounds
Celebrate the life and talents of North East musician, Aran Glover, at The Cluny. The show has been organised by many of the bands and friends Aran admired from the region’s music scene and all funds will go to suicide prevention and mental health charity, If U Care Share Foundation.
SUNDAY 13 JANUARY
Morning munch
Stop by Pink Lane Coffee for brekkie bites! Kick-back with sweet pastries, avocado on toast or even a doughnut or two, washed down with a cup of hot speciality coffee.
Shop, shop, shop!
Take advantage of sales at intu Eldon Square. Hunt down discounts from big-name brands and stores, including Levi’s, Topshop, All Saints, Fenwick and John Lewis!
Kids comedy
Take little rascals to Kids Comedy Club at The Stand. Top comedians will be telling jokes without swears and there will be magic, improv and impression shows to enjoy, too! Best suited for 8 to 12-year-olds.
Fuel up
Refuel between shopping trips with a healthy beverage or two at Boost Juice Bar. Wake yourself up with an Energising Juice, or why not treat yourself to a Mango Magic smoothie?
Sunday adventures!
Enjoy a Space Golf experience, topped off with fab food and drink at Mr Mulligans. Blast off winter boredom with an out-of-this-world adventure through three golf courses, topped off with slushies and refreshments!
Laugh-out-loud
See British comedian and actor, Seymour Mace, take to the stage at The Stand. Watch as he and his mates make stuff up on the spot, relying only on the fact that they're funny. What will happen, who knows!
Dinner date
Settle in for a Sunday roast at Marco Pierre White. Enjoy three mouthwatering courses, showcasing the finest native breed beef, roast loin of pork and pan-fried chicken with all the trimmings.
Bubble time!
Treat yourself to Sunday afternoon tipples at Barluga. Kick-back in the Grey Street bar with friends, enjoying all your favourite cocktails, or even a bottle of bubbly.
