Get Tanked with Czech Cheer at New-Look City Bar...

One of the Czech Republic’s most famous exports is heading to the North East next month when a new-look Newcastle bar opens its doors.

Staropramen tank beer will be available for the first time in the city centre when the Union Rooms re-opens on 23 November.

The Westgate Road bar is currently undergoing a multi-million pound facelift to include a new pizza restaurant, private dining area and even a barber’s shop after being purchased by Cyclone Newcastle last year.

And now the bar is set to feature the first Staropramen tank in Newcastle, giving discerning drinkers the chance to enjoy the freshest-tasting Staropramen outside the Czech Republic.

“We wanted to bring something a little bit different to the city centre and give our customers what we believe to be the best tasting beer available,” said Stuart Young, director at Cyclone Leisure.

“Anyone who has ever visited the Czech Republic will know how popular Staropramen is, and we were keen to deliver it in exactly the same way as it’s served in its native country.”

Staropramen has been brewed in Prague since 1869 and the golden pilsner is the UK’s most popular Czech beer.

Tank beer is unpasteurised and continues to mature right up to the moment it is poured, giving the drinker the chance to enjoy it as fresh as the master brewer intended.

And this, says Mr Young, is what makes it so special. “It is made with premium Czech hops which gives it its unique flavour and this is enhanced so much more when it comes from a tank.

“The beer itself is already very popular, particular with people who have visited the Czech Republic and now fans can get the best version they can outside of the brewery here in the centre of Newcastle.”

The Union Rooms has remained open while the work has been ongoing, with individual areas closing as and when needed for work to be carried out.

Cyclone Newcastle Ltd is part of the Cyclone Leisure Group which also incorporates Lorenzo North East which operates San Lorenzo restaurants in Gosforth and Washington.

Anyone who signs up to the Union Rooms newsletter will get the chance to win tickets to the VIP opening event on Thursday 22 November.
