Diaries at the ready, folks! As lockdown restrictions begin to ease in the coming weeks, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite foodie spots in NE1 offering outdoor eating and drinking ahead of 12 April.
Kafeneon
Get your Greek on! Yes, that’s right, Kafeneon is getting set to reopen its outdoor seating area on 12 April and we can’t wait to tuck into some of our favourite sunshine dishes. From chicken souvlaki and halloumi pita, to their famous big fat Greek gyros, Kafeneon’s menu is bursting with authentic flavours and fresh ingredients. We’re drooling just thinking about the crumbly feta!
Meat:Stack
The burger experts are back! Nab yourself a spot in their new outdoor seating area and tuck into some truly tasty grub. Whether you’re a chicken or a beef lover, we can guarantee you’ll find something to hit the spot! For us, succulent beef, gooey cheese and crunchy bacon is a winning combo.
The Little Dumpling House
Make space in your foodie diaries for the return of The Little Dumpling House. Thanks to Deliveroo, our Chinese street food cravings have been kept at bay, but chowing down on our favourite pork and Chinese leaf dumplings from their outdoor seating area - now that’s something we can’t wait for.

The Social Cafe & Bar
Our taste buds are tingling at the thought of a pepperoni pizza party at The Social Cafe & Bar! We’re talking heaps of pepperoni and piles of rich mozzarella, on a delicious, doughy base - not to mention a cocktail or two in their new and improved outdoor area. Roll on 12 April. We’ve got our fingers crossed!

Horticulture
The sweet taste of Horticulture! Select from a menu featuring some of the finest small plates, mouth-watering sharing options and oh-so tasty side dishes. Heat, spice and all things nice - we’ve set our sights on the chicken thigh tagine served with giant couscous and middle eastern spices. Foodie connoisseurs will be pleased to know Horticulture is now taking outdoor reservations for 12 April and onwards - music to our ears!
Flat Caps Coffee
Picture this, you’re sitting outside in Carliol Square watching people pass by, the sun is shining and you’re sipping on a cup of the good stuff from Flat Caps Coffee. None of us know what returning to ‘normal’ life is going to look like, but this scenario is pretty close - one bacon sandwich and a latte please.
Leila Lily’s
The news we’ve all been waiting for! Leila Lily’s is set to make a Toon return with its outdoor terrace from 12 April. Think chicken and brie and smoked salmon sandwiches, scrumptious quiches, crumbly scones, fruity tarts and melt in the mouth crumbles - all of that, plus plenty of veggie options to ensure afternoon tea is covered for everyone. Oh, and don’t forget the colourful cocktail list!
City Tavern
Who fancies being reunited with City Tavern? On 12 April, you may just be able to enjoy a chilled and socially-distanced experience as their cool and quirky urban garden, Cinema Paradiso, will be reopening its doors. Walk-ins are welcome, but we recommend you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
Tiger Hornsby
Cocktails anyone? We’re hoping that, come 12 April, you’ll be able to reserve a spot in Tiger Hornsby’s outdoor seating area and sip away on your favourite beverage. Let us set the scene… it’s a spring afternoon, you’re sitting by the Quayside taking in the pretty views, feeling the warmth of the sun on your face and sipping on a Pornstar Martini - is there a better way to kick off the easing of lockdown restrictions? We didn’t think so.
Prima
Our pals at Prima are looking to reopen their doors on 12 April and we can't wait to dive headfirst into all of the pizza and pasta dishes we can get our hands on. Looking to browse the menu before your arrival? We hear you! Check out their menu for mouthwatering dish info.

Perfect pints by the river are on the horizon! As 12 April looms in the distance, we're keeping our fingers crossed we can reunite with this Quayside favourite.

Jesmond’s biggest beer garden is getting ready to reopen - and yes, the return of some of your favourite street food and drink stalls have been confirmed! Safely enjoy a day in the spring sunshine with the venue’s easy-to-use table service. Get your table booked now to ensure a seat at the beach!
Okana
The all-new Okana is coming to Newcastle this April, and we can hardly wait! Go here for a unique, classic-contemporary vibe. While the indoor bar and cocktail lounge remains under wraps, they are preparing to open the outdoor terrace from 12 April for NE1 folk to try the Okana experience.
