As we fast approach Newcastle hosting this year's UK Pride after a long-awaited two years, here's a round-up of five of our favourite LGBTQ+ bars in NE1.
Let's start at the oldest gay bar in Newcastle! Continuing its legacy of being one of the most iconic gay venues in the Toon, The Yard is situated on Scotswood Road. Having regular drag queen acts with shows and performances, expect great entertainment from the outset. From the newest to the oldest, upstairs is Oscars, the latest bar in town that will be serving your favourite drinks and cocktail concoctions.

At the heart of the scene, Bobby’s is one of the more casual gay bars in Newcastle. Bobby’s bar has everything from sports matches to late-night shows. The cabaret keeps you entertained 7 days a week with your favourite ‘Bobby Dazzlers”. Bobby’s has events on throughout the week so keep an eye out when planning your next night out!

Rusty’s has built a reputation as one of the biggest Cabaret bars in Newcastle. With an inclusive, buzzing atmosphere and the most fabulous drag queens playing your favourite tunes all night long, it’s the ideal spot to get in the party mood, and maybe even meet Rusty herself. Chill in a booth with pals and see who’s who, or hit the dancefloor before heading across to Powerhouse later!

Another major player for Newcastle’s top LGBTQ+ must-go-to bar is Boulevard, and a trip there will show you why. Compered by Miss Rory and hosted by Miss Danni Dee, a night at Boulevard always revels in being extra fabulous, with amazing choreography and hilarious comedy acts. With super-special nights held throughout the year, including Christmas, Halloween, and New Year themed extravaganza, there’s always something going on at Boulevard. So dress to impress and get the drinks flowing!

Last but certainly not least! No article about the LGBT+ nights out in Newcastle would be complete without featuring Powerhouse. The giant of the Geordie gay scene started life in the ‘80s and is still going strong to this day. With regular club nights including Rewind, and the bar open till 4am five days a week (and 5am on Saturdays for the true all-nighters) - it is quite simply the place to be for an unforgettable night on the toon.
