Raising Shame: Northern Stage

This Event has passed

In a collaboration between BRASH and the Streetwise Young People’s Project, this play presents the real-life experiences of Newcastle’s young people to challenge the stigma of menstruation and its brutal relationship with poverty.

This is a show is about menstruation education. It’s about challenging stigma and body-shame rooted in today’s digital world. It’s about our young people, standing up and saying, “enough is enough”, and being powerful enough to accept each other.

Following a sell-out tour of Shoefiti last year, BRASH are back with their most cutting-edge show yet.

The North East is one of the UK’s regions most affected by period poverty. This play is commissioned as part of a wider Social Action project ‘Project M’ run by Streetwise and funded by the #iwill Fund and partners The National Lottery and DCMS. This project is about fighting period poverty in Newcastle by supporting girls, young women and young people to access free period products discreetly by visiting Streetwise Young People’s Project and getting an ‘M-Card’. The service has been designed by young people for young people, and is inclusive and supportive. Anyone aged 11-25 is eligible and can get advice on issues relating to their periods.
