Beer is often called ‘alcoholic bread’ - and why not? They both share virtually identical processes so it makes sense - as does a day and a half of bread making using beer balms and other byproducts of the brewing industry. And don’t worry, you don’t need to know anything about either bread or beer to attend!
So what’s in store for you? Firstly, you’ll meet at Blackfriars 3pm on Friday for tea and coffee before a minibus whips you away to one of our favourite local breweries for an exclusive tour and tasting. You’ll then return to Blackfriars to set your beer balms and pre-ferments away before finishing the day with a beer-themed supper.
On Saturday, you’ll meet back at Blackfriars for a full-on day a bread-making using your beer starters from the previous day. Refreshments will be provided throughout the day as well as lunch. Breads may include a beer balm sourdough, a monastic spelt loaf, malted bloomer and a rye loaf - all for you to take home (unless you eat it first!).
All dough is hand-kneaded and aprons are provided though it’s best to dress casually and comfortably as bread-making can be a messy activity!
