Our favourite summer Tyneside tradition is back! Screen on the Green has been showing all your favourite films throughout the summer, and the next week will be no different. Clear your diary and get ready for a whirlwind week of cinema!

MONDAY 14TH

The Lego Batman Movie (U)

When? 12pm

Monday mornings never looked so good! Get the little ones out of the house and along to a fun-filled open air performance of The Lego Batman Movie. Whether it’s a firm favourite that always seems to be on in your house, or this is your family’s first time seeing the cool 3D hit, it’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Some of the film’s younger and most dedicated fans might even want to dress up to celebrate…capes at the ready!

Life of Pi (PG)

When? 6pm

The toon’s screening of Life of Pi is set to thrill old and new audiences alike, with its dramatic story of survival against impossible odds. Animal lovers will love watching the tale of majestic Bengal tiger Richard Parker and his human friend, Pi. Great for adults and older kids, this is a chance to wrap up warm for a late summer night at the movies and let the story transport you from Newcastle to the ocean…

TUESDAY 15TH

The Princess and the Frog (U)

When? 12pm

Remember growing up with your favourite Disney films, full of princesses and magic? The Princess and the Frog is one of Disney’s latest takes on a classic  fairytale, full of twists and turns as Tiana’s adventure plays out in early 20th-century New Orleans. Bring the family, and make sure to get dressed up! We’re sure there will be plenty of little princesses in the audience, and maybe even a frog or two…

 

WEDNESDAY 16TH

The BFG (2016) (PG)

When? 12pm

One of our favourite childhood books returns to the big screen this Wednesday with the all-new BFG (2016). An orphan little girl befriends a benevolent giant who takes her to Giant Country, where they attempt to stop the man-eating giants that are invading the human world. A big film, about a big guy, on our big screen - round up the troops and head for Old Eldon Square to catch this fantastic, larger than life movie.

THURSDAY 17TH

Stardust (PG)

When? 6pm

To win the heart of his beloved, a young man named Tristan ventures into the realm of fairies to retrieve a fallen star. What Tristan finds, however, is not a chunk of space rock, but a woman named Yvaine.This wonderful flick is a must-see for the whole family. Pull up a deckchair at Old Eldon Square and soak up the atmosphere at our Thursday night Stardust screening.

FRIDAY 18TH

Willy Wonka (U)

When? 12pm

Got a sweet tooth? Pack a feast of fantastic fizzers and ginormous gobstoppers and head into town for a one-off screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Follow the funny yet dark tale of Charlie Bucket and his dream of transforming his family’s fortunes, and sing along to those classic tunes…all together now, Oompa, Loompa…

SATURDAY 19TH

Check in for an underwater adventure this Saturday with the Finding Nemo, Finding Dory double bill at NE1 Screen on the Green. 

Finding Nemo (U)

When? 12pm

Join your favourite clownfish and friends on a journey through the Great Barrier Reef. After Nemo is captured and heads for Sydney, his father Marlin and friend Dory set off on a journey to bring him home. A family favourite perfect for an afternoon of movie magic.

Finding Dory (U)

When? 6pm

Can't get enough of the oceanic delights? Return to the screen at 6pm to continue the journey with Dory and friends. This time, ditzy Dory the forgetful blue tang fish goes missing in the big blue sea as she begins a search for her long-lost parents. This new movie is exciting and educational and everyone picks up a thing or two about the meaning of family along the way.

SUNDAY 20TH

It's time for another double bill, brought to you by Smooth Sundays in association with Smooth Radio North East. The Sunday sessions are super fun and you've also got the chance to win VIP prizes throughout the afternoon.

The Jungle Book (1967) (U)

When? 11am

Let the Disney magic come alive at Old Eldon Square this Sunday. Round up the kids for a jungle adventure on the big screen. Bagheera the Panther and Baloo the Bear have a difficult time trying to convince a boy to leave the jungle for human civilization, but Mowgli the Man Cub enjoys life with his animal friends a little too much.

The Jungle Book (2016) (PG)

When? 2pm

Continue the jungle journey into the afternoon with a stunning screening of The Jungle Book (2016). A magnificent cinematic experience where the animals we all know and love come to life again. After a threat from Shere Khan forces him to flee the jungle, Mowgli embarks on a journey of self-discovery with the help of Bagheera, and Baloo.
