New Foodie Openings in NE1

Last updated:

Looking for somewhere new to dine in NE1? You might have seen our reviews, you might have seen people snapping on social media or it might be that these newbies are completely new to you. Our city is Alive After Five seven days a week, so why not book in and try one of these new foodie hangouts for yourself…

Porterhouse Butcher & Grill

Raising the steaks when it comes to sharing a meat moment with loved ones. Go here for succulent sirloins, a robust ribeye and a chateaubriand to share. Inside Fenwick Food Hall, it’s not only a restaurant for a spot of post-shopping dining, it’s also a meat counter meaning foodies can take away the goods to cook up a storm at home. Satisfying steak-lovers in the city, pop this one on your Christmas shopping to-do list. For none steak-lovers, there are plenty of appetite pleasing dishes to choose from including grilled lamb chops, steak pie and a Porterhouse hash.

Bar Soba - *coming soon*

Bringing Pan-Asian street food to the streets of NE1, we’re super excited about this new opening on Collingwood Street. Inspired by South East Asian classics, you’ll no longer need to hop on a long haul flight to get a real taste of Asian cuisine. This growing chain is a bustling spot for food, cocktails and music. And with plans for a late-night cocktail lounge with DJs, it’s set to keep the party popping after dark. We can’t wait for our Asian food fix as Bar Soba arrives in town - we’ll keep you in the loop!

The Laundrette

We're very excited about this brand new carb and cocktail joint that’s landed on Westgate Road. Go here for cool cocktails, perfect pizza toppings, burgers to die for and sharing platters that will satisfy even the pickiest eaters in town. With laugh-out-loud neon signs hanging on the walls and colourful decor throughout, this place will have you feeling snap happy in no time!

Absurd Bird - *coming soon*

The Absurd Bird is as intriguing as it sounds. Bringing the soul-warming comfort food of America to NE1 - it promises honest grub, sweet specials, good value meals and an electric atmosphere that’ll have you pining for more with your pals. Expect nostalgic flavours, cool colours and shapes and something a little different from your foodie experience. It’s all about humour and it’s all about putting the fun back into food. Keep an eye out for this one popping up in Eldon Square.

The French Quarter

A foodie heaven for fans of French food or tapas-tastic diners. This newbie popped up in the railway arches late summer and it’s getting better and better. Run by a couple who have found the perfect recipe to showcase their love of food and wine together - taking Cedric’s knowledge of life in the Alps and Catherine’s passion for life in the North East and merging them together to create something of a masterpiece.

Côte Brasserie

Côte Brasserie is coming to Newcastle this October. This brilliant brasserie chain is set to open on Grainger Street and will bring relaxed all-day dining to the high street - perfect for that mid-shopping trip treat or pre-theatre dinner. Serving authentic French classics, it’s a family-favourite where you’ll find something for everyone. Dishes include steak frites, tuna Niçoise and moules marinières to name but a few. We can’t wait to try this classy new spot.

Beeronomy - *coming soon*

The brother duo who run Mordue Brewery, serving beer to many businesses in NE1 - are set to start their dream business with Beeronomy, a new opening set to take off on Hood Street. This new project combines a cafe, restaurant and bar - but the focus, of course, will be on the beer and the pairing of quality foods.
