NE1 Reviews: The Laundrette

Last updated:

The Laundrette has been unbuckling belts in Manchester since 2013… and now it’s here to treat the people of NE1 to two of the best things in life - cocktails and carbs.

Eating is treating here, so it’s important that every ounce of fun is injected into the experience as soon as you walk through the door; from ordering cocktails at the bar and enjoying live music, to cosying up in a booth and indulging in a carby feast.

Who doesn’t love a bit of a carb-overload every now and then? Even better when it all goes down well with a creative cocktail packed full of punchy flavours and innovative ideas.

With a menu that aims to “leave you feeling 100% satisfied and shamefully full”, it’s the perfect spot for a tasty treat or a bit of good-for-the-soul grub.

This new spot standing proudly on Westgate Road in the hubbub of the city, is busy, bustling and it’s our new favourite hangout for pizza, pasta, burgers, cocktails and more.

We’ve established the beauty of the venue - now it’s time to check out the beauty of the menu. A lunchtime feast means its mocktails over cocktails (unfortunately) - but it turns out we’ve got nothing to be unfortunate about as they’re equally as delicious.

It’s the Mango and Rosemary Cooler for myself - a punchy concoction packed with fresh
mango, coconut, apple and rosemary for a bit of a kick (£5). My lunch date opts for a sweet something: the Fizz Wizz Shake - a naughty-but-nice milkshake filled with fresh strawberries,
milk, vanilla and popping candy for good measure (£5).

Eyeing up the long, luxurious cocktail list, we can’t wait to return to make our way through the Pimpin’ Hot Choctails for the colder months. All come served with cream, toasted marshmallows and Oreo biscuit.

On to the main event. My pizza pal goes for the ground beef pizza with mozzarella, jalapeño, green bell peppers and fried onion on a gluten free base (£10). A flavoursome feast on a crisp base - with a friendly spicy kick.

I’m drawn to the burger bar section of the menu, opting for the chicken burger - polenta fried chicken breast, guacamole, chipotle aioli, mozzarella and rocket (£12.50). It’s fresh, feel-good and the side of truffle and parmesan fries has me feeling fabulous. It’s treat day after all!

Diners can expect a selection of small load starters, sharing platters, "prewash" picky bits, pizzas, "easy-care" salad options, burgers, and hearty meals such as lasagne, lamb stew and seriously good steaks.

There’s also slashings of mac n cheese, mixed salad, garlic mushrooms, courgettes, roasted beetroot and fries of all flavours for that extra bite! It’s safe to say The Laundrette is already spinning its way to success in NE1 - make sure you pop in for some popping candy, pizza-lovin’ fun this autumn!
