Monday Digest: What's On In NE1 This Week?
Whether it's theatre, music, food, culture or family fun, we've got you covered with things to do in Newcastle this week.
MONDAY 18 - SUNDAY 24 FEBRUARY 2019
19 - 23 February
Set in the North of England in the aftermath of Margaret Thatcher’s death, Approaching Empty is a compelling drama that lays bare the everyday struggles of a post-industrial generation of British men. Directed by award-winning playwright, Ishy Din, it follows Mansha, who decides it’s time to create his own destiny and offers to buy his lifelong friend Raf’s tired minicab business. But as the realities of the state of the company slowly unravel, the two best friends must confront the difficulties of going into business with those closest to them. Gritty, honest and entertaining - catch it at Live Theatre!
FOOD & DRINK >>
Mark the middle of the week with mouthwatering treats at Tyneside Cinema. This month’s Supper Club is inspired by French food and wine and brings a fantastic five-course feast to the table! Dishes include: baked scallops, champagne sorbet, beef bourguignon, French bread and cheese, and a cone of choux buns filled with cream - for those with a sweet tooth! Sounds delicious, right? Count us in! Bon appétit...
CIRCUS SKILLS WORKSHOP WITH CIRCURAMA
Our friends at Circurama are back at the Discovery Museum this Monday for a fun-filled Circus Skills workshop! This lively, interactive session invites families to try their hand at juggling, plate spinning, twirling diabolos, hula-hoops and more!
Make Monday music plans with a trip to the O2 Academy to see Scottish synth-pop band, CHVRCHES. Swinging by NE1 as part of their 2019 headline tour, and in celebration of their Top 10 album, ‘Love Is Dead’, this is a must-see performance. Join Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty as they bring their unique tunes to a North East stage!
LUCA RUTHERFORD'S POLITICAL PARTY
Feeling confused or overwhelmed by politics? We’ve got just the play for you... Luca reached a point where thinking about politics made her want to lie down on the pavement and not get up. But this time, she’s throwing a party - a political party! There will be music, dancing and eggs - but there will be no know-it-alls or big words. Sounds good? Sit back and enjoy at Northern Stage this Tuesday!
