Hack Your NE1 Weekend | 8 - 9 June 2019
YAY FOR THE WEEKEND!
Follow our guide to another great weekend in NE1. From family fun and foodie moments, to theatre-thrill and mega music, there's something for everyone!
SATURDAY 8 JUNE
Coffee culture
Kick-start your weekend at Laneway & Co. The stylish, chilled-out cafe is a go-to if you love your freshly-roasted beans, specialist espresso and brunchy plates.
Garden glory
Head to our very own Grey Street Gathering to rest your legs and soak up the sun. The new pop-up park is an away-from-it-all retreat in the heart of the city, filled with beautiful blooms and gorgeous greenery.
Tea, anyone?
Settle in at The Royal Station Hotel and treat yourselves to a spot of Afternoon Tea. Enjoy dainty fingers sandwiches, mini desserts and fresh scones, washed down with your choice of tea or coffee.
Music moments
See British music legend, Leo Sayer, live at Sage Gateshead. The singer will be touching down on Tyneside as part of his UK tour, in celebration of his 70th birthday year.
Fantastic four
Don’t miss Meerkat Parade at The Globe. The creative contemporary jazz quartet is made up of four like-minded musicians who all have a love for creating new and exciting music.
Comedy corker
Bill Bailey brings his Larks in Transit show to the Utilita Arena. Recalling travellers’ tales and the general shenanigans of 20 years as a travelling comedian, Bill will be tackling politics, philosophy and the pursuit of happiness in this hilarious show.
Cash out!
Dance the night away to the sounds of Johnny Cash at O2 Academy. James Garner, otherwise known as CASH, will be playing the star’s biggest and best-loved hits with conviction and honesty, alongside stories from his legendary life.
SUNDAY 9 JUNE
Perfect pastries
Get your Sunday off to a sweet start at Pink Lane Bakery. Head to this best-loved city centre spot and relax with hot cups of tea, fresh coffee and just-baked sweet and savoury pastries.
Shop 'til you drop
Once you’ve filled your bellies with breakfast, enjoy a wander around Fenwick’s famous Food Hall. Pick up plenty of mouthwatering goodies, from artisan breads and fine patisserie, to wine, regional meats and cheeses.
Local goodies!
Stop by Boiler Shop's Emporium farmers’ market! The tasty event brings together some of the region’s finest bakers, veg-growers, small batch distillers and a 20-seater restaurant with slots from guest chefs.
Get your game on!
Get your pre-cinema gaming fix at The Ctrl Pad, Newcastle’s very own video gaming lounge at The Gate. Packed with retro and bang up-todate games and setups, it’s a game-lover’s paradise!
Sunday flicks
Sundays aren't complete without a good film. Escape to Cineworld this weekend to see X Men: Dark Phoenix, which sees Jean Grey embark on a lifethreatening rescue mission through space. Popcorn at the ready!
Mouthwatering meals
Head to Bonbar for a Sunday feast! Start with black pudding lollipops and salmon and beetroot pâté, followed by Northumberland beef with all the trimmings. For dessert, it has to be their apple tart or pudding!
Jam time
Don’t miss The Globe’s amateur jam session, Am Jam, from 3-6pm. The friendly and supportive environment was designed to give opportunities for less-experienced jazz musicians to show off their stuff. Get involved!
Top tunes
Celebrate 9th June - otherwise known as Bill & Ted Day - at The Cluny 2! Enjoy both Bill & Ted films on the pub’s big screen, along with live music, fancy dress, air guitar competitions and more!
