Get Ready For a Bigg Market Bash!
Big things are happening down at the Bigg Market - and we can't wait to share them with the people of NE1!
Think of this as your official invite to our Bigg Market Bash! On 13 April 2019, from 11am – 4pm, we’re inviting the people of NE1 and beyond to come and enjoy our new public realm in the Bigg Market!
This inaugural event celebrates the multi-million pound redevelopment of the city’s iconic Bigg Market, which has been lovingly transformed into a permanent fourlevel terrace area perfect for events, activities, and simply enjoying some spring sunshine.
Creating a superb new sociable space in the centre of our city, it’s a great spot to meet, relax, unwind and enjoy! Team NE1 worked alongside Newcastle City Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund to deliver this amazing new transformation - restoring this iconic area of the city, which sits in the historic core between Central Station and Grey Street.
This Easter holidays, families are invited to come and see the new space, with an action-packed programme of events and activities planned for the 13th April! At the heart of the event will be a stage, where local bands and acts will perform throughout the day; there’ll also be a fine selection of food and produce stalls including delicious crepes from La Petite Creperie, coffee from Laneway & Co, and doughnuts from Proven Goods Co.
Finally, kids can enjoy craft activities and face painting as they spend the day! What’s more? Iles Tours will be on hand to take visitors on heritage tours around the Bigg Market and surrounding areas. A great opportunity to learn something new about the area with the highest proportion of listed buildings in the city. Did you hear about the man who took his pet puma for a pint in the Old George?
