Everything You Need To Know About Rock N Roll Circus!

Roll up roll up! The circus is coming to town, but this one rocks! The biggest event to hit the Town Moor so far this year, Rock N Roll Circus will get the summer live music calendar off to a great start with their gigs on Thursday 9th and Saturday 11th June.

As the title might suggest, this isn’t any ordinary gig, and aside from world-class live bands and artists, you can expect...well...the unexpected!

The action takes place in a big top marquee, with circus platforms showcasing the incredible skills of fire performers, breathtaking aerialists, acrobats and much more! With photo-ops aplenty (perfect for your Insta channel!), the immersive event promises to have you grinning from ear to ear from the moment you walk into the arena.

The fun kicks off on Thursday 9th from 4.30pm when local lad Andrew Cushin will perform his swaggering indie rock, which comes with the personal approval of one Mr Noel Gallagher (more on him later). Up next are Aussie electro dance act Confidence Man, whose high energy indie pop sound is perfect for a festival-style show like this. Perennial live favourites The Charlatans will lift the big top roof a few feet higher with their anthemic indie rock, and the headline spot goes to Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, an artist whose consistently superb songwriting and recognisable sound will ensure a fitting end to the first day’s fun.

On Saturday 11th, gates open at 3pm and another local act will kick the proceedings off. Teesside siblings ZELA have caused quite a stir on the local scene with their ‘brat pop’ sound and raucous live show fronted by vocalist Liv Griff, their set will be sassy and attitude-ridden and you won’t want to miss it. They’ll be followed by South Yorkshire alt. indie band The Reytons, who rose to acclaim last year with the release of their cracking debut album, Kids Off The Estate. Another Australian band grace the stage on Saturday, when DMA’s present their irresistible rock and roll vibes before the headline act ramps up the excitement. Indie rock scamps The Libertines have had quite the rollercoaster of a career, but their songwriting prowess and ability to lift an audience into mass sing-alongs remains steady, along with the captivating chemistry between Carl Barat and Pete Doherty.

There are plenty of opportunity to grab some great food and drink, with local heroes Fat Hippo delivering their incredible burgers, Parm-O-Rama providing the iconic local delicacy that is the Parmo, Spud Loaded Fries bring the carbs, and there are gourmet hot dogs for that classic circus feel. Bars offer up everything from ales, lager and cider, to wine, spirits and a great cocktail selection.

Some other useful info: the age limit is 14+, so it’s great for your rock stars in waiting! Only small bags are allowed, leave the rucksack at home. Arriving by car? Use NE2 4PZ for your sat nav – even better, grab the bus or Metro! Claremont Road and Haymarket are useful hubs. Viewing platforms are available for those who have access needs. Tickets are available on the door or via See Tickets, Ticketline or Gigantic online, priced from £47.50.

The vibe will be reminiscent of a Las Vegas-style show, complete with highly skilled performers, stilt walkers, circus-themed décor, fortune tellers and more, and coupled with that amazing music line-up it’ll be the perfect place to get back together with friends and celebrate a fantastic summer to come!
