Bank Holiday Tipple Tour in the Toon!
We love a bank holiday knees-up here in NE1! Round up your pals, make your way into town and go on a tipple-tastic tour from Grey’s Monument to the Quayside.
1. THE BOTANIST
Start with some sunshine sips at The Botanist. Our favourite spot for plant pot cocktails and watering can concoctions. We’d recommend the ‘Gin featuring strawberry and cucumber’ watering can - a spring special!
2. HARRY’S BAR & RESTAURANT
Make your way down Grey Street, swinging by Harry’s Bar for classic cocktails and signature sips worth smiling about.
3. LOLA JEANS
Divert down Market Street and lap up the quirky loveliness of Lola Jeans. Their floral fusion of 1920s-inspired cocktails is a must on anyone’s bank holiday bar crawl list. A flare for rare, beautiful and tropical tipples.
4. PLEASED TO MEET YOU
It’s time to go on a bit of gin journey at Pleased To Meet You. Hit the bar for pick ’n’ mix G&Ts, sharing plates and classic cocktails. PTMY are the ‘gin kings’ of NE1 and they’re well worth a visit this bank holiday weekend!
5. KALTUR WINE BAR & RESTAURANT
While you’re on High Bridge, check out the hidden gem that is Kaltur. Go here for good wines and great nibbles. Taking your favourite tipples and pairing them with tasty tapas dishes.
6. YOLO TOWNHOUSE
YOLO Townhouse offers three floors of guaranteed good times with cool cocktails, wonderful wines and perfect pints.
7. BROWNS BRASSERIE & BAR
A must-visit! Make a beeline for the
bar, sip champagne or crack into the classic cocktail list. Looking for special soft drinks? Treat yourself to one of Browns’ alcohol free cocktails.
8. BARLUGA
A hop, skip and a jump from Browns will bring you to Barluga. Go here for destination drinking on Grey Street, in the most elegant surroundings. Feeling peckish? Why not pick at a seafood sharing plate or a baked camembert?
9. COLONEL PORTER’S EMPORIUM
It’s time to take it back to the 1920s at our city’s finest rhum bar! This Dean Street spot serves vintage cocktails, tipsy teas, real ales and rhum specials.
10. THE BROAD CHARE
Make your way down to the Quayside and stop at The Broad Chare. A traditional ale house with honest food, great company and good vibes. It’s cute, it’s cosy and it’s a great place to rest your legs after a wee walk along the Tyne.
11. LAS IGUANAS
Lap up the sunshine vibes at Las Iguanas on the Quayside. Sit outside, soak up the sun and enjoy the tastes of Latin life at this colourful spot on the banks of the Tyne.
12. PITCHER & PIANO
The final stop on our bank holiday adventure is the Quayside's Pitcher and Piano. The perfect spot to kick back, pick up delicious drinks and party into the night!
