NE1'S SCREEN ON THE GREEN

NE1's Screen on the Green continues to steel the show this August when it comes to open-air summer screenings in the city! Get down to Old Eldon Square this month to catch some fabulous flicks. Unpack your picnic and pull up a deckchair as you unwind for some mega movie moments in Newcastle! August screenings include: Hairspray (8 August, 6pm), Free Willy (23 August, 6pm), Moana (24 Augsut, 12pm) and Mary Poppins (30 August, 12pm) to name but a few.

MASSAOKE: GREASE VS DIRTY DANCING
Friday 10 August
It's time to dress up and dance to throwback tunes as Massaoke: Grease vs Dirty Dancing comes to Newcastle's O2 Academy. To mark the 40th anniversary of Grease and 30th anniversary for Dirty Dancing, join a very special sing-a-long party packed with your favourite songs from two of the biggest musical movies of all time. It's guaranteed to be the time of your life and one of the best summer nights of the season!

Head to Blackfriars Cookery School this Augsut to learn everything you need to know about the art of Geordie cooking! As part of the Great Exhibition of the North Inspired By programme, pupils will create some canny dishes including pan haggerty, pease pudding and singin' hinnies!
BLACKETT STREET WEEKENDS
11 - 12 August & 18 - 19 August
Funky furniture, family zones and fairground rides will take over Blackett Street on two August weekends - thanks to Team NE1! Go here for guaranteed good times by Grey’s Monument. It’s the perfect city centre spot to soak up the sun and really make the most of the school summer holidays in the heart of NE1. We’re waving goodbye to the busy traffic and saying hello to chill-out spaces, quirky seating areas with bean bags, deck chairs and an artificial grass sofa.
CHARLOTTE TILBURY SUMMER ESSENTIALS MASTERCLASS
Tuesday 14 & Wednesday 15 August
Makeup mavens and eyeliner addicts, rejoice! Team Tilbury is setting up at The Botanist for August for an exclusive evening of fizz, expert tips and tricks, and live demos! Not only will lead artists be showing off the latest makeup launches from the cult cosmetics brand, they'll also be showing you how to achieve the perfect summer glow with the help of Charlotte's state-of-the-art skincare. All guests will receive a luxury 'Tilbury treat', a complimentary drink and a three-course meal.
THE ENCHANTED GARDEN

Get yourselves along to the Laing's new The Enchanted Garden exhibition this summer - an originial showcase that's bound to have you feeling blooming great! Bringing together the gallery's painting, 'The Dustman or The Lovers' by Stanley Spencer, with major works by British and French artists, it explores the garden as a 'stage' for the extraordinary, the magical and the nostalgic!
PEPPA PIG'S ADVENTURE
Wednesday 22 & Thursday 23 August
Join Peppa Pig at the Theatre Royal this August as she embarks on an exciting camping trip to the woods with George and her school friends, including Pedro Pony, Suzy Sheep and Gerald Giraffe. With lunch-boxes packed and Daddy Pig driving the bus, expect a fun-filled adventure full of games, laughter and live music!
LIVE FROM TIMES SQUARE
Wednesday 22 & Thursday 23 August
Live From Times Square is back - with two headline acts you won't want to miss this August! Legendary reggae band, UB40, will be taking to the outdoor stage on Wednesday 22, and Bonobo will follow on Thursday 23 August. A must-see open-air gig in NE1, for the music-lovers of the North East.
NEWCASTLE MELA
Sunday 26 & Monday 27 August
Celebrate South Asian culture at Newcastle's vibrant Mela festival this August bank holiday! People from far and wide will gather to eat, be entertained, dance and get their culture fix. To mark the Mela's 25th anniversary, a carnival of colour, drumming and costumes will take to the Toon on Sunday 26 August, winding its way from Blackett Street up through Northumberland Street and on to Exhibition Park. Don't miss out on this colourful celebration!
GRILL-A-WARFARE... THE BATTLE OF THE BBQ
Friday 24 & Saturday 25 August
It's BBQ season, and so our friends at Wylam are celebrating in true, bank holiday fashion this August! From the peopl who brought you Battle of the Burger and Slice Wars, Grill-A-Warfare... The Battle of the Burger brings a diverse line-up of street food vendors cooking on raw heat! The ultimate BBQ complete with sides, sweets, gins, beers and more!
