5 Of The Best LGBT+ Bars In NE1

After another phenomenal Pride weekend, LGBT+ culture and nightlife is rightfully taking centre stage in Newcastle. Pride’s over for another year but that doesn’t mean the celebrations should end any time soon! Here’s our round up of five of our favourite LGBT+ bars in NE1.

No article about the LGBT+ nights out in Newcastle would be complete without featuring Powerhouse. The giant of the Geordie gay scene started life in the ‘80s and is still going strong to this day. With regular club nights including Rewind and PHUK, and the bar open till 4am four days a week (and 5am on Saturdays for the true all nighters) - it is quite simply the place to be for an unforgettable night on the toon. 7-19 Westmorland Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 4EQ

Rusty’s has built a reputation as one of the biggest Cabaret bars in Newcastle. With an inclusive, buzzing atmosphere and the most fabulous drag queens playing your favourite tunes all night long, it’s the ideal spot to get in the party mood, and maybe even meet Rusty herself. Chill in a booth with pals and see who’s who, or hit the dancefloor before heading across to Powerhouse later! 3-4, Centre for Life, Times Square, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 4EP

Eazy Street provides seven nights a week of quality entertainment and a fun, chilled out vibe. With a poundsaver menu rolled out every Monday, it makes for a cheap night out too. After all, with singles and shots for just £1, it would be rude not to! Whether you’re booking the bar for a party or popping in for a casual drink, Eazy Street is right up our street. 8-10 Westmorland Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 4EG

Boulevard is another major player in Newcastle’s Cabaret scene, and a trip there will show you why. Compered by Miss Rory and hosted by Miss Danni Dee, a night at Boulevard always revels in being extra fabulous, with amazing choreography and hilarious comedy acts. With super-special nights held throughout the year, including Christmas, Halloween and New Year themed extravaganza, there’s always something going on at Boulevard. So dress to impress and get the drinks flowing! 3-9 Churchill St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 4HF

One of Newcastle’s more casual gay bars, Switch is the ideal place to pre-drink and get the night started, bang in the middle of the city centre near Central Station and Digital. With food served every day until 7pm, it’s perfect for a meal to line your stomach before you head into the pink triangle. The rooftop terrace also means summer drinks in the sun are definitely on the menu! 4-10 Scotswood Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne NE4 7JB
