When is it?

Where is it?

Newcastle Civic Centre

Between Thursday September 8th and Sunday October 2nd 2016, Newcastle was transformed to welcome the influx of 80,000 students from 152 different countries from all over the world.

Never before had an entire city welcomed students from all institutions as one and we were proud to offer this celebration in conjunction with Newcastle University, Northumbria University and Newcastle College.

Seven searchlights scanned the sky nightly for twenty-five days from seven of Newcastle's most iconic buildings:

  • Newcastle Castle
  • The Theatre Royal
  • Newcastle City Library
  • Newcastle Civic Centre
  • Northumbria University City Campus East
  • Newcastle University Into Building
  • Newcastle Sixth Form College

In addition, 30 flagpoles lined Ceremonial Way at Newcastle Civic Centre, and displayed, on rotation throughout the duration of the event, the flags of 120 countries represented with students at one of the city's education establishments.

Stunning fireworks displays, visible from across the city, took place within Leazes Park to ceremonially open and close the event, and further flags hung above Grey Street, in Newcastle Airport and at Newcastle Central Station for the duration of the event.

Now the Freshers have arrived into the city, and begun lectures, whilst we begin to plan how to best welcome the next influx in September 2017.

If you'd like to become a part of the event next year, as a sponsor or host venue, please don't hesitate to email Ben.Whitfield@newcastlene1ltd.com.
